The different techniques

OMI

Orthopedic Medicine International originates from the British doctor James Cyriax (1900-1985) who excelled in his field of diagnostics and treatment of the musculoskeletal apparatus. He started as a surgeon in Edinburgh in 1928 and discovered that many patients were undergoing surgery which was not necessary. These patients often had very vague diagnoses which were often based on palpation and x-rays which did not correspond to the patient’s problem.

The examination method is an analysis of the patient’s symptoms and exact history in combination with the clinical/functional examination that will lead to a specific diagnosis based on clinical pictures of the muscle and skeletal injuries.

Who can benefit from OMI?

In theory, everyone seeking a physiotherapist for a problem can benefit from this examination and there after the different treatment techniques. If you have a sudden appearing pain, such as a sprain after a trauma or pain in your shoulder or elbow after overuse in front of your computer. We will help you locate where the pain origins, for example from nerves connected to discs or if it’s a local problem.

Kinesiotaping

Kinesiotaping is a technique used mainly among sports professionals to prevent – and treat – injuries. What makes the tape so unique is that it gives stability, as well as flexibility, as the tape is elastic but does not contain any sort of medicine. The techniques used facilitate or inhibit

muscles, as necessary. It can also provide support to joints, for example after an ankle sprain, without causing any restrictions in mobility. It is a modality that enhances the function of many different tissues and physiologic systems. Often this treatment is used to prevent re-injury, and it helps the body to return to homeostasis.

Who can benefit from kinesiotape?

People who suffer from AC (acromio-clavicular joint- part of the shoulder) joint pain, achilles tendonitis, ankle sprain, plantar fascitis, shin splints, carpal tunnel syndrome, patellae tendinitis, lymphodema, virtually everything.

A treatment appropriate for any stage of your treatment plan:

  • acute
  • subacute
  • rehabilitative
  • chronic

Contraindications:

There are very few contraindications for the use of kinesiotape and if in doubt, we are connected with doctors at the same clinic.

  • deep vein thrombosis
  • kidney problems, such as renal failure
  • congestive heart failure
  • cancer
  • infection
  • aneurism
  • open sores
  • undiagnosed rashes or skin irritations

Lymph drainage

If you feel your feet are aching, swollen or cold or you are bothered with low immunesystem. Then lymphatic drainage could be a treatment to lower your problems or even eliminate them.

The lymphatic system is part of our body’s immune system and helps clean out toxins as well as fight infections and viruses. Unlike blood, which is pumped around by the heart, the lymph system has no pump and needs help from the muscles to be circulated in the body. Indications of a non-functioning lymph system are: swollen ankles, sore muscles, cold feet and hands, cramps and general stiffness in the body. Lymphatic drainage has very few contraindications, as it is a very gentle form of massage, to open the lymphatic channels and lymph nodes, to make the fluids flow easier.

Contraindications:

  • decompensated cardiac insufficiency
  • cardiac edema
  • congestive heart failure
  • acute inflammation caused by pathogenic germs (bacteria, fungi, viruses).

Acute renal failure. We offer both manual treatments well as machine assisted treatments for the lower extremity (legs) and waist. It is important that the therapist «opens the channels» before starting the actual drainage. If not, there will still be blockage and the liquids will not be emptied and transferred out of the body with the urine.
